Air Plasma Systems for Automated and Mechanized Cutting

A-Series air plasma systems from ESAB combine durability and performance in a compact, economical package that provides an 80 percent duty cycle at respective rated outputs of 40, 60, 80 and 120 amps.

Posted: August 29, 2017

A-Series plasma systems from ESAB feature a CNC interface connection that offers “start/Stop,” “OK to MOVE” and divided arc voltage signals. Dedicated automation software improves cycle time and performance in many applications, and the system automatically detects the type of torch attached. The SL100SV 1Torch from Thermal Dynamics includes gas ports that eliminate the need for a separate plasma gas distributor and provides longer consumable parts life and better cutting performance. Other benefits of the 1Torch include a valve-in-torch design that reduces cycle time between cuts to increase productivity. The A-Series offers the flexibility to switch between automated and manual plasma cutting simply by connecting an SL60 or SL100 manual 1Torch.

ESAB Welding & Cutting Products (Florence, SC) offers their A-Series air plasma systems for automated and mechanized cutting. Based on proven technology, these systems combine durability and performance in a compact, economical package. All of these plasma cutters — the A40, A60, A80 and A120 — provide an 80 percent duty cycle at their respective rated outputs of 40, 60, 80 and 120 amps. Production cutting and piercing capacities range from 1/4 in to 5/8 in, with details as follows:

A-Series units feature a CNC interface connection that offers “start/Stop,” “OK to MOVE” and divided arc voltage signals.

These units offers the flexibility to switch between automated and manual plasma cutting simply by connecting an SL60 or SL100 manual 1Torch. This enables fabricators to use a single plasma system for shop and field work, or to manually cut parts when hand-held cutting makes more sense. For location flexibility, all A-Series systems can use 208V to 230V or 460V single-phase power, as well as three-phase power. This is the only plasma system in the market that provides 120A cutting power on single phase 208V to 230V input voltage.
