Walter Friedrich, the president of German Machine Tools of America (GMTA; Ann Arbor, MI) recently announced the promotion of Scott Knoy to vice president of the company. Knoy joined the organization on July 1, 2005, back when the company was known as American Wera Inc. Since then, he has played a large role in the growth of the organization, which is a leading supplier of machine tools, lasers and parts washers to the automotive power transmission, gear and other markets in North America. He was particularly instrumental in helping them secure a “Global Purchase Agreement” with General Motors, according to Friedrich.

“Scott has also played a key role in keeping the business running smoothly, especially during the last several years as we’ve opened our facility in Mexico and I’ve been working there to support this effort,” noted Friedrich. The Mexican facility in Queretaro is now fully functional, with plans for expansion already in the works. As a sign of appreciation and a move for the future, Friedrich spoke with the company’s board of directors at the IMTS 2016 trade show and they agreed to offer Knoy the position of the vice president.

“Between myself as the president and Scott as our vice president, we will continue to expand our market share, our products and technologies, plus our great customer relationships and service offerings,” said Friedrich, speaking about the promotion.

“I’m honored to accept the new responsibilities and to continue contributing to the growth of our company. Gears and the auto industry are in my blood, as my dad was in the business and I literally grew up around gear machines,” added Knoy, who will continue to oversee the sales and marketing operations in addition to other administrative duties at the Ann Arbor headquarters. Knoy is also very active with the American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA; Alexandria, VA). He is a graduate of the University of Michigan and also holds a Masters in Business Administration.
