In recognition for his contributions to the Independent Welding Distributors Cooperative (IWDC; Indianapolis, IN), the Industrial Gas and Welding Industry and the surrounding Pittsburgh, PA, community, Joe Greco, the president of Greco Gas Inc. (Tarentum, PA) was presented the Bob Jackson Memorial Award at the IWDC Owners’ Meeting that was held in Dana Point, CA, on October 11-14.
Because Bob Jackson played an integral part in the formation of the IWDC, this honor is bestowed annually on a member who has “gone above and beyond” in their support of the organization. The Bob Jackson is considered their preeminent award, with criteria that includes strong volunteer spirit, supportive of independents, viewed internal and externally as a respected leader, engaged in the industry, community and family-centric.
Greco Gas is a fourth-generation company headquartered in Tarentum and one the oldest continuously-owned independent gas and welding distributors in North America. Joe Greco has been leading his company’s growth for over 37 years and has expanded their operations into four locations, installed a state-of-the-art cylinder fill plant, launched a microbulk gas offering, and diversified into specialty gases, dry ice and propane.
Formed in 1994, IWDC leverages the strengths of its 138 independent welding distributor members across North America to collectively represent over $2.2 billion in sales that serve a wide range of industries. The common denominator is that these industries look to these distributors for industrial, specialty, and medical gases, as well as related equipment, hard goods, and consumables. End-use customers served by IWDC members benefit from having the unparalleled expertise of a local member distributor who has access to national-scale purchasing and marketing programs.
