Vertical Lift Reduces Picking Error Margin to Zero

The flexible OnePick integrated system from Modula offers fully automated, accurate and secure picking and replenishing of products.

Posted: September 8, 2016

The secure delivery interface window in the OnePick system from Modula can be integrated with a fully automated delivery and takeaway conveyor.
At the operators request, the system retrieves the selected item and places it in a retrieval location in the secure delivery window. The unit’s design ensures that when the door opens automatically the operator has access to that requested item. With this feature, inventory is always safe and under control, making it the perfect storage solution for valuable items that need flawless and safe picking. (first view)

Modula Inc. (Lewiston, ME), one of the world’s leading manufacturers of automated storage and retrieval systems, introduces OnePick, a highly customizable edition of their original Lift. This innovative product combines the vertical lift module`s technology with a sophisticated automated system for the picking or replenishment of a single product at the time directly from the bay, reducing  the error margin to zero and guaranteeing the highest level of safety. When combined with a delivery and takeaway conveyor, this system also allows fully automated picking and replenishing of products via the introduction of a secure delivery interface window that ensures greater accuracy and precision.

The OnePick’s added customization grants users the option of switching operation modes from standard Vertical Lift with access to SKUs from a full tray, to a restricted access single pick device. This offers users the advantages of two systems combined into the same dynamic machine. The versatile nature of the system also makes it stand out as the only machine in the market that features the flexibility of being integrated into a fully automated line and serving alongside human operators at the same time. Production of this system will start at the end of this year in Modula factories in Italy and the U.S.

“Shops are increasingly under pressure to close time gaps, keep employees safe, have products stored in a secure environment and avoid shipping mistakes,” explained Miguel Fabra, the chief executive officer of Modula. “This new tool breaches any lapses so that shops can gain a competitive advantage in their warehousing automation.” This new Lift incorporates customer requirements for greater accuracy, security and precision to meet the following challenges in the market:

  • An integrated solution for automated systems that does not require the use of external robots.
  • A picking system offering single access to the needed item eliminating the margin of human error.
  • A machine that selects one product at a time, allowing for secure and traceable “vending machine” capabilities in the factory.

The idea for the system came up while working on a picking solution for a shop where the use of an external robot was not possible and there was the clear need to offer protected access for only a product at a time. The first prototype was developed and additional consultation with other clients led to further improvements.
