A portable pipe beveling tool that lets one person perform end preps on large pipe used for oil and gas pipelines and process steam lines to help produce precision welds is available from ESCO Tool Company (Holliston, MA). The Terminator MILLHOG® Pipe Beveling Tool features an adjustable tool holder that indexes and locks for easy setup and has a dual spring safety hanger which facilitates alignment on pipe from 8-5/8 in ID up to 36 in OD. Allowing one person to setup, align and machine large pipe ends, this pipe machining tool can bevel, face, and bore simultaneously to create precision end preps that are the foundation for producing precision welds.
Easy to maneuver, the Terminator MILLHOG Pipe Beveling Tool rigidly clamps to the ID and has a tracker to compensate for variations in wall thickness and a precision feed control to advance into the pipe. Equipped with user-selectable formed TiN coated tool bits, it comes with a 5 hp pneumatic motor or an optional hydraulic motor and does not require cutting fluids. This prep tool is priced from $47,995 and is available for rent in the continental U.S.
ESCO Tool also offers a pipe beveling tool that has been upgraded with three blades that work together to rapidly provide compound bevels on highly alloyed, heavy-wall pipe. The MILLHOG Dictator Pipe Machining Tool securely mounts to the inside diameter of heavy-wall pipe from 4.5 in to 18 in ID using three wide clamps with hardened steel contact points. Featuring a 3-blade tool holder and formed TiN coated blades that dissipate heat away from the pipe’s surface, it can perform a 37-1/2 x 10 deg bevel or any other angle simultaneously. Capable of precision machining end preps that permit high integrity welds and faster weld times, the MILLHOG Dictator Pipe Machining Tool develops 4,100 ft-lb of torque at the cutter blade and pulls a continuous thick chip without cutting oils. Ideally suited for stainless steel and super duplex piping systems, this beveler has an easy to maintain 3 hp air motor. It is priced from $21,995 and is available for rent from $850 per week, depending upon location.
ESCO Tool also offers the MILLHOG Tube Weasel Air-Clamp End Prep Tool, an upgraded portable pipe milling machine for boiler tube panel fabrication or onsite fit-up work, especially where highly repetitive welding end preps are required. It features a new 1.1 hp motor with a self-centering draw rod that rigidly mounts into a tube or pipe ID. Designed for performing highly repetitive end preps, the pneumatic clamping mechanism has clamp ribs that retract from the mandrel automatically after milling to minimize friction and cycle time; speeding throughput up to 600 percent. Reducing operator fatigue with air-assisted on/off attachment, the MILLHOG Tube Weasel Air-Clamp End Prep Tool is ideal for tube and pipe beveling from ¾ in ID to 3 in OD in applications where there are a lot of similar sizes requiring precision end preps for welding. Capable of beveling, facing, and boring simultaneously, this tool can be used in any orientation. It sells for $4,995 and is available for rent in the continental U.S.
ESCO Tool also offers a truly portable tube beveling tool that has been upgraded with a new battery that lets operators fit-up boiler tube panels virtually anywhere. The Mongoose MILLHOG Battery Powered Beveling Tool is a self-centering ID clamping right angle drive tool that can bevel, face, and bore simultaneously and can also be supplied with a cutter head for membrane and overlay removal. Now offered with a 6.2 Ah, 18V rechargeable battery, this narrow body tool is ready to fit-up boiler tube panels virtually anywhere. Allowing up to one hour operation depending upon the application, the Mongoose MILLHOG Battery Powered Beveling Tool is suited for 5/8 in ID to 3 in OD tubes and only needs 2.25 in minimum clearance. Providing chatter-free operation without cutting oils, this portable tool uses TiN coated cutter blades with a radical chip breaker to direct heat away from the tube surface. It is priced from $4,395 complete and is available for rent at $182.50 per week.
