Hexagon AB (Stockholm, Sweden), a leading global provider of information technologies that drive productivity and quality across geospatial and industrial enterprise applications, has announced the acquisition of Apodius GmbH (Aachen, Germany), a start-up specializing in measurement solutions for fiber composite components.
Apodius was founded in 2012 and serves original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) as well as suppliers in the automotive, aerospace, electronics and appliances industries with the development, production and integration of measurement solutions for carbon fiber. Carbon composite materials are enablers for lightweight structures in various high-growth fields like aerospace, automotive and renewable energy.
Furthering Hexagon’s strategy to expand its expertise and portfolio to support current and future manufacturing trends, this acquisition adds core capabilities to support the implementation of measurement solutions in multi-layered textile reinforced structures for extremely light, rigid and robust fiber composite components. “The requirements for composite fiber inspection go beyond the classical dimensional metrology which our current offering provides,” said Norbert Hanke, the president of Hexagon. “Their solutions offer a perfect complement to our portfolio, in terms of technology and application expertise.”
“Providing highly-accurate positioning data, their solutions fit perfectly to our sensors,” added Alexander Leutner and Jonathan Roberz, the co-chief executive officersof Apodius. “Furthermore, joining Hexagon is a great opportunity to bring our technology to composite production lines all over the world.”
