Motion Industries, Inc. (Birmingham, AL), a leading distributor of maintenance, repair, and operation replacement parts and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Genuine Parts Company (GPC; Atlanta, GA), is pleased to announce the building of a new, expanded distribution center (DC) near Dallas, TX. The facility is scheduled to open in March 2017 and will be managed by Dan Krska.

The site is in the center of the DFW Metroplex and less than a half mile off of a major highway. It is also close to LTL carriers and to both of the area’s major airports. With 156,000 sq ft, the new facility will net the company almost 50,000 sq ft over the current Dallas distribution center location and will house approximately 50,000 SKUs. The current Dallas DC serves 65 branches on a daily basis, and serves more than 550 locations company-wide across North America. “Our customers in this region will hopefully benefit from our improved and expanded inventories that will be available under one roof and will reduce freight costs,” noted Krska.

The two-story office will include distribution center offices, the company’s Southwest division offices, a full-scale branch with retail space, and an enhanced showcase area for visitors. The build shop offerings of fluid power conversion, gearbox assembly, cut rails and shafting, and valve assembly will transfer from the current DC to the new facility. The team plans to add a bore-to-size lathe and increased shafting and rail stock in the foreseeable future. “We are very much looking forward to delivering a new high-efficiency supply chain experience to our customers, to our branches, and to the employees of this DC,” added Richard Burmester, the senior vice president and group executive of Motion Industries’ Southwest Division.

“This new facility will provide excellent proximity for our current market and employee base,” stated Joe Limbaugh, the vice president of operations at Motion. “The larger space will allow us to grow our industrial supply segment and adequately fill customer demand in this region. Also, our 5-star processes and technologies will be implemented as part of the new design, which will accelerate our speed to market. Our branches will have accessibility to a deeper selection of current vendors and industrial supplies along with new product lines.”

With the expanded facility and planned inventory increase, the company plans to add jobs to fulfill the anticipated need for additional material handling employees. The new address of the building site, which has just broken ground, will be 200 West Trinity Boulevard, Grand Prairie, TX.

In addition to this facility in the Lone Star State, they also operate other major North American distribution centers in Birmingham, AL; Tracy, CA; Chicago, IL; Baltimore, MD; Edmonton, AB; and Lachine, QC. With annual sales of $4.6 billion, Motion Industries is a leading industrial parts distributor that serves more than 150,000 customers from the food and beverage, pulp and paper, iron and steel, chemical, mining and aggregate, petrochemical, automotive, wood and lumber, and pharmaceutical industries.
