Red Bud Industries (Red Bud, IL) recently received an order for an EPS® Coil Line from steel producer TYASA (Orizaba, Veracruz, Mexico) that can descale hot-rolled strip up to 0.075 in (1.9 mm) thick and 72 in (1,829 mm) wide and can handle coil weights up to 73,000 lb.
With this new line, TYASA continues to invest in the latest state-of-the-art and most innovative technologies to process steel. EPS (Eco Pickled Surface) is an “acid free” replacement for traditional acid pickling that is environmentally friendly and produces a scale free, clean, rust resistant surface without the use of hazardous chemicals associated with pickling steel. It eliminates harmful chemicals that create safety and environmental risks. Not only is this line better for the environment, but it also produces a notably better steel product. Using this process, the surface roughness of the strip is far more uniform when comparing it to acid pickled material. This surface is ideal for paint adhesion and appearance, and no protective oil coating is needed after the processing, making it perfect for post processing operations.
TYASA has also invested in a new Castrip thin-strip casting facility. Red Bud specially configured and designed the line to process this thin strip. Once installed, this investment will make TYASA the first 100 percent Mexican steel producer to operate EPS technology. The line consists of a Coil Stage and Load System, Uncoiler, Peeler Breaker, Entry Crop Shear, Stitcher, two EPS Cells, Electrostatic Oiler, Exit Crop Shear, Tension Stand, Recoiler, and Exit Coil Removal Station.
