Fidia SpA (Turin, Italy) has moved its North American operations from Troy, MI, to a new 14,000 sq ft headquarters facility in Rochester Hills, MI. The company designs and builds numerical controls and high-speed milling machine systems for the production of complex-shaped parts for the automotive, aerospace and energy markets. They are among the world leaders in the field of numerical controls and one of the few that can provide their own on-board electronics, controls and process software for their range of milling machines.
“Because our market share and customer base has steadily increased over the past several years, we found the need to expand our existing North American operations,” explained Dr. Giuseppe Morfino, their chief executive officer. “Combine that with our partnering program with Paragon Die & Engineering (Grand Rapids, MI) to build machines right here in Grand Rapids, and it became evident that we required additional manpower and facilities to better serve our existing and future customers. The new expanded facility includes an 8,000 sq ft warehouse and demonstration area for the stocking of more spare parts, and presentation and demonstration of a number of our high-speed milling machines and controls. There is also a controls service and retrofit area. The new facility has a 6,000 sq ft office area that has allowed us to expand our engineering and service support, as well as add two new sales engineers. That will expand our North American operation to over 20 employees.”
Morfino concludes, “We are very pleased with our machine tool and controls business here in North America. We have experienced good incremental growth since 1994 when we established our first operation in Troy. Jorge Correa, our vice president of sales for North America, has done an excellent job in building our brand and providing the high level of service our customers require. Later this year, we will be introducing a brand new 4.5 m large gantry high-speed milling machine that will be built by our partner Paragon.”
Fidia was founded in 1974 in Turin and now employs proximately 341 people, with three industrial sites in Italy, one joint venture in China and subsidiary operations in Germany, Spain, Russia, Brazil, France, India, China and the U.S.
