Aquasol Corporation (North Tonawanda, NY), a leading manufacturer of water soluble consumables and other technologies, offers the 200 AMP model to its popular Fiback fiberglass weld backing tape. Fiback was originally introduced for applications up to 600 AMP. However, with the lower cost 200 AMP introduction, the product line will now offer a comprehensive solution to all back purging applications.
Each amperage offering has its respective functionality designed to meet various needs. The Fiback 600 AMP is comprised of heavy-duty material and is commonly used in military and commercial shipbuilding in addition to being highly applicable in orbital welding environments. The Fiback 200 AMP is lighter in composition and is sufficient for general maintenance and fabrication applications.
Suitable for SMAW (stick), TIG and MIG welding processes, Fiback 200 AMP operates best with thinner metals such as aluminum, carbon steel, chrome steels, cast iron, nickel and cobalt alloys, and copper nickel. For more general applications, the 200 AMP offering serves as a cost effective alternative to the Fiback 600 AMP, which works best with denser metals such as stainless steel.
This welding tape is composed of two adhesive areas around the outside edges with a center fiberglass strip that is heat resistant up to 1,022 deg F (550 deg C). Unlike ceramic tapes, which develop stress points between pieces, Fiback is consistent in thickness and creates a continuous bead during welding. It greatly reduces weld set up time and ensures that the weld slag is safely collected in an enclosed weld pool, resulting in a high quality weld. After use, this fiberglass tape can be easily removed from the backside of the root gap, eliminating the need for any post-weld grinding or back gouging.
