The machine tool builder, Fair Friend Group (FFG; Taipei City, Taiwan), announced its decision to choose ESPRIT CAM software from DP Technology Corporation (Camarillo, CA) to program its machine tools and to partner with the software vendor.

To choose its CAD/CAM system, they created a benchmark and tested four CAM software suppliers against it. “ESPRIT was able to cover our specifications better than any other software we investigated. On top of that, customer support was very knowledgeable, comprehensive and prompt,” states Jürgen Reingen, the head of development for FFG.

“They wanted to find the best CAM solution to program their new NBH P80 machine,” said Martin Biewer, the chief executive officer of Prevoma GmbH (Saarbrücken, Germany), the European ESPRIT distributor who worked with FFG. “Comparing ESPRIT with other competing systems demonstrated that it was the fastest in programming a wide range of applications.”

FFG and Prevoma agreed on a consulting project to demonstrate the software’s capabilities. Prevoma was to set up the machine tool virtually with ESPRIT and program a mold part mounted on a tombstone with 3-axis simultaneous milling. “Within three weeks of starting, we had programmed the part, created a virtual model of the NBH P80 for simulation, built an optimized postprocessor, and run the finished program on the machine,” noted Biewer.

FFG has four new machine projects in progress. “This is a challenging project for us and DP Technology,” added Biewer. “We want to be their number one partner.” The objective is to bundle ESPRIT CAM software with FFG machines all over the world. ESPRIT is a high-performance CAM system for a full range of machine tool applications. The system delivers powerful full-spectrum programming for 2–5 axis milling, 2–22 axis turning, 2–5 axis wire EDM, multitasking mill-turn machining and B-axis machine tools, and high-speed 3- and 5-axis machining.

DP Technology has product development teams in California, Italy and Germany. Sales and support operations are located in Europe, Asia, and North America. FFG is one of the largest machine tool manufacturers in the world with manufacturing facilities in Europe, Asia and the U.S. Their portfolio includes milling, turning, gear manufacturing and grinding machines, designed for industrial manufacturing in the automotive, aerospace, energy, railroad, general machinery and many other industries.

Prevoma recommends and provides CAD/CAM systems to companies and provides services including process analysis, installation and maintenance of systems, training, consulting, programing and coaching. Their mission is to facilitate a shop’s manufacturing processes and give them all the necessary tools to boost their production.
