Omron Automation and Safety (Hoffman Estates, IL) has expanded its family of Safety Controllers with a stand-alone version of the NX-series Safety Controllers that uses Safety over EtherNet/IP for a powerful, modular and easily commissioned safety controller that can be efficiently adapted to a wide range of safety applications. The expandable design provides a highly scalable solution, making it ideal for compact systems with just a few I/Os, as well as for larger applications that require up to 256 I/O points. The system is configured with Sysmac Studio software using a special stand-alone safety version, or the full suite of automation software.
The NX-series Safety Control Unit’s inputs support direct connectivity to any kind of safety device: safety light curtains, scanners, interlocking devices, non-contact sensors, electromechanical switches, safety mats, safety bumpers, enabling switches, and more. The unit’s outputs support any type of safety actuator from safety relays and safety contactors to inverters or other drives with built-in safety torque off (STO) functionality. The new EtherNet/IP coupler supports the stand-alone system with two EtherNet/IP ports to provide a simple-to-use communications platform that can share all system status information with other devices. The stand-alone NX-series Safety Controller is compatible with any device that communicates over the EtherNet/IP network, including those from suppliers other than Omron. The Sysmac Studio software offers machine builders full control over the Omron portion of their automation system with a single software tool for the entire machine or production cell.
