Hobart Institute Hires New Welding Instructor

Lou Smith teaches welding in the Structural Welding and Combination Structural and Pipe Welding Programs.

Joining the staff at Hobart Institute of Welding Technology (HIWT; Troy, OH) is Lou Smith, who will be teaching the skill of welding to students in the Structural Welding Program and in the Combination Structural and Pipe Welding Program.

Smith comes to the Institute with nine years of welding experience. He is a 2003 graduate of HIWT and will be sharing his education and experience with the students. He also served in the United States Navy for three years. “I’m really looking forward to passing on my knowledge and experience on to the next generation of welders,” says Smith.

Ron Scott, the vice president and general manager of HIWT, says, “Lou will be a great addition to our staff. He is certainly willing to share his experience and knowledge of welding with others.”

Smith recently relocated from Prattville, AL, to Piqua, OH, with his wife. In his free time he enjoys fishing, hunting and cheer on the Alabama Crimson Tide.
