Automated Edge Rounding of Structural and Flat Profiles

The Edge Rounding Line from HGG eliminates the costs of labor-intensive grinding by smoothly and perfectly rounding the surface edge on I/H-beams, tees and flat bars to prevent corrosion.

The rugged Edge Rounding Line can automatically process a radius of two or three millimeters on a beam flange, T-bar and flat bar by rolling all four edges in a noiseless and dust-free operation for a better working environment.

The new Edge Rounding Line from HGG Profiling Equipment (Charleston, SC) delivers a smooth and perfectly rounded surface edge to I/H-beams, tees and flat bars to prevent corrosion, while eliminating the labor-intensive costs of grinding. The Edge Rounding Line is available as a stand-alone machine solution or it can be fully integrated with the Robotic Profile Cutting Line (RPC) to achieve an even higher level of productivity with totally automated cutting and material handling capabilities.

The Edge Rounding Line includes a Conveyor for in-and-out material feed, Aligning Rollers to position and guide material, and an Edge Rounding Unit to stabilize and round the bottom and then top flanges. The system also includes a Handling Conveyor for out-feed to a Revolver, which revolves material so that the top flanges can be been rounded, in-turn, once bottom flanges have been rounded. “It can automatically process a radius of two or three millimeters on a beam flange, T-bar and flat bar by rolling the edges. Once the edges are rounded, the beams can easily meet the corrosion protection requirements,” explains Balder de Wolf, the manager of research and development at HGG.

The ruggedly designed Edge Rounding Line provides additional advantages and benefits as well, including high-speed processing with continuous rolling processes for rounding all four edges, noiseless and dust-free operation for a better working environment, a long roller lifetime by a hardened surface and perfect geometry, easy automatic operation and material handling, and the ability to use the system as a stand-alone unit or fully integrate it with the fully-automated RPC.

The Robotic Profile Cutting Line, also known as the Plasma Beam Profiler, is designed for the totally automated plasma cutting of a variety of profiles for the offshore/onshore and steel construction industries, including I/H beam and square/rectangular tubing profiles. The RPC dramatically increases accuracy, quality and overall productivity with technological feature innovations to eliminate time-consuming machine tactility.
