The board of directors of Sapa AS (Oslo, Norway) has appointed Egil Hogna, age 44, as the company’s new president and chief executive officer. He replaced Svein Tore Holsether.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to lead this company. As the leading player in our industry, with 23,500 employees in over 40 countries, we are well positioned to deliver innovative aluminium solutions meeting customer demands all over the world, today and tomorrow,” said Hogna.

For the last six years, he has led the downstream operations at Yara International. He has previously served in a variety of management positions in Yara and Hydro, including chief finacial officer and head of investor relations. Hogna has a Master of Science degree from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, NTNU, in Trondheim and an MBA from INSEAD.

“Both owners are very pleased that Egil Hogna will lead us into the next phase. With the integration in place and synergy realization well ahead of plan, Hogna will, with his broad international industrial experience, continue our development as the most innovative and customer-oriented aluminum solutions company in the world,” noted Svein Richard Brandtzaeg, the chairman of the board.

Sapa announced on March 30 of this year that Holsether would be leaving the company to take over as the president and the chief executive officer for the Norwegian fertilizers group Yara International ASA. His last working day at Sapa was September 8.

“The board would like to thank Svein Tore Holsether for being a great capacity for us during the forming of the joint venture. Together with a solid and highly competent top management in Sapa, he has led the company through a crucial initial phase, taking forceful actions to ensure that we are well positioned for a bright future,” added Brandtzaeg.
