All Bent Into Shape

Here is some of the newest equipment and tooling used to bend sheet metal and plate steel.

The Haeusler ROLLmeister Plate Roll TETRA series from Sterling Fabrication Technology is ideal for medium and large batch production of shell and tube heat exchangers and pressure vessels with a small-to-midsize range of wall thicknesses, as well as economical single shell production.
The 4-roll design of the Haeusler ROLLmeister Plate Roll TETRA from Sterling Fabrication comes with a variable rotation speed of up to 26 fpm. The narrow machine geometry (the travel path of the side rolls related to the top roll) applies high bending forces to a wide range of shell or pipe diameters to be rolled.
The Haeusler ROLLmeister Plate Roll TETRA from Sterling Fabrication includes an operator control desk with a 19 in touch screen for easy visualization of all process parameters and comfortable programming. The ergonomics of the joy stick and the CNC control reduce the operator learning curve as well as potential fatigue that can occur during long, intensive hours of production. (first view)

The super high speed back gauge and ram on the Xpert 40 press brake from Bystronic ensure the highest production efficiency of highly complex sheet metal shapes.
The V-Lock System from Wila consists, in part, as a new self-seating groove that has been added to the tang for absolute die alignment along both the X and Y axis of the press brake and positive clamping of individual die sections so that even the smallest sections cannot be inadvertently moved out of position as is common during sheet handling.
The TOUCH-i4 tablet from LVD Strippit provides a real-time overview of the entire fabrication workshop by generating and presenting live information needed to manage networked laser, punching and bending machines.
The PB3-18-10 plate bending machine from Schwarze-Robitec has a cone bending device and uses a hardened roller diameter of 460 mm with an integrated lever arm system to manage a contouring force of up to 255 tons and achieve a high level of torque that is ideal for bending particularly thick stainless steel plates.
The accurate and fast Warcom Dinamica press brake from Trilogy Machinery is ideal for job shops, metal service centers and sheet metal fabricators that demand high performance precision and productivity.
The customizable Warcom Futura from Trilogy Machinery is ideal for medium and heavy steel fabrication, with a standard hydraulic crowning system that guarantees accurate and repeatable bends on models ranging from 50 tons up to 1,500 tons. (first view)

With an initial performance of 3,000 x 28/31 mm and a round bending performance of 3,000 x 45 mm, the PB3-18-10 is the ideal system for bending particularly thick plates, such as those used in the offshore sector. This bending is accomplished through the roller diameter of 460 mm and an integrated lever arm system that takes care of an available contouring force of up to 255 tons. “The force and the boost of this plate bending machine have convinced us,” reports Hans Besseling, the managing director at Kersten Europe, which is headquartered in the Dutch Wanssum and has three other bases in Dubai, Poland and Germany.

After the delivery to the Polish subsidiary Kleszczów at the end of October 2014, Schwarze-Robitec completed the acceptance tests successfully and also trained the Kersten employees. Commissioning took place in November. Prior to that, Kersten had paid several reference visits to Schwarze-Robitec in Cologne, and there decided in favor of the PB3-18-10. “Both the machine quality and their advice and service are excellent,” recounts Besseling. “We are most satisfied.”

In addition to the plate bending machine, Kersten Europe also works with an SB3-140 section bending machine from Schwarze-Robitec, which brought both machine series on the market at the beginning of 2014. As bending specialist for tubes, Schwarze-Robitec has been working internationally since the 1950s. “We have successfully transferred our know-how, together with the sector experience of our development partner SweBend (Hässleholm, Sweden), into the area of plate and section bending,” reports Bert Zorn, the managing director of Schwarze-Robitec.

VERSATILE METAL BENDING
Trilogy Machinery, Inc. (Belcamp, MD) is the exclusive North American distributor of hydraulic and electric press brakes from Warcom srl (Brescia, Italy). Warcom, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of press brakes, is a third-generation family-owned company that was founded in 1959 and now distributes to 65 countries across five continents. In constant production for over 55 years, Warcom produces a wide variety of high speed, precision hydraulic and all-electric press brakes, as well as high tonnage models that include tandem and quad machine configurations.

Characterized by an elegant design with attention to every detail, the synchronized Dinamica press brake meets the highest technology level of high performance precision and productivity. It is specifically designed for the most demanding customers who need an ergonomic, functional, accurate and fast press brake. Equipped with a full touch screen 19 in CNC, it has an increased distance between table and upper beam and Y axis stroke, a CAN/BUS digital system, heat exchanger, and soundproof hydraulic pump on standard equipment. This is the best machine for job shops, metal service centers and sheet metal fabricators that need the highest quality and productivity.

The Futura is the most versatile machine that Warcom offers and their most requested model in the market. It is available in different versions, with models ranging from 50 tons up to 1,500 tons that are completely customizable. The main structure is monolithic to the size limits allowed by conventional transports. On all other cases the main structure is assembled by particular bolt. The standard configuration uses CNC controls with video-graphic colors to simulate and optimize the bending sequence. The press brake uses a fast, accurate and sturdy high-speed 2-axis (X-R) rear back gauge. The standard hydraulic crowning system guarantees accurate and repeatable bends. This is the best press brake for medium and heavy steel fabricating and industrial equipment. Its unique 20-year track record of sheet metal working is a strong point of excellent reliability and great value of money.

The new Logica is an electrical press brake that saves energy without compromising performance and quality. Its great combination of modern and elegant design, innovation and high level technology uses a revolutionary direct drive system, between servo motor and upper beam, without any mechanical transmission organs, that makes the system extremely reliable, accurate, efficient and quiet, with a speed higher than any other kinematic system available. The press brake also uses a high performance back gauge that is moved by racks and pinions on high accuracy linear guides. This is the perfect machine for small bends in series with high productivity and repeatability.
