To celebrate their 50th Anniversary, Mike Dougherty, the company president, invites the general public to an open house at D&S Manufacturing (Black River Falls, WI) on Saturday, May 16. The open house will feature guided plant tours, a photo gallery and refreshments.
“We are thrilled to open the plant to our neighbors and proud to show off our plate metal fabrication capabilities” stated Dougherty. “We have come a long way since my dad purchased a local welding and repair shop in 1965.” The company moved to its current location in 1966, occupying a new 5,000 sq ft facility.
With steady growth over the years came multiple expansions. A 9,300 sq ft addition was recently completed to accommodate new fabrication equipment in the now 150,000 sq ft facility. The company’s commitment to the community is reflected in its numerous civic activities. In the last year alone there have been three blood drives, a peanut butter drive, and a very successful “Stock the Pond” event to raise funds to restock D&S Pond in Lunda Park. As a strong supporter of education, the company provides two scholarships annually for the UW Stout Science STEPS For Girls program, supplies welders and weld gasses for local high school weld programs, and also provides financial support for school projects.
In 2013, to ensure continued local ownership of the company and to reward the employees responsible for its success, D&S became majority employee-owned. The dedicated and highly skilled workforce lives a commitment to superior project management, exceptional quality, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement, empowering their employee owned company to live its slogan, “D&S ….Solid™.”
