Skills Instructor Retires from Hobart Institute

Mike Higgins steps down after 46 years of service.

The Hobart Institute of Welding Technology (Troy, OH) announces the retirement of long-time Skill Instructor Mike Higgins following 46 years of service. He was a long time welding instructor at the institute and shared his extensive welding knowledge with thousands of students over the years.

Higgins started in October of 1968 working in Hobart Brother’s Research and Development Department for a few years. He then served two years in with the 1st Calvary Division for the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After the war he briefly returned to Hobart Brothers. In 1978 he accepted a welding instructor position with the Hobart Institute of Welding Technology.

Higgins noted, “I’m truly going to miss the staff and students! I will also miss hosting the yearly Veteran’s lunch for all of our veteran staff.” As he looks forward to changing lifestyles, he plans on spending more time at his lake house and working on his Army jeep.
