David J. Landon has been named as the 2015 president and chair of the board of the 70,000 member of the American Welding Society (AWS; Miami, FL). He has been an active member of the society for over 30 years and previously served as its vice president from 2012 to 2014.

Landon has also been a contributing member to many technical committees and won several awards from the society, including the District 16 Dalton E. Hamilton Memorial Certified Welding Inspector of the Year award and numerous meritorious awards. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in welding engineering from LeTourneau University in Longview, TX.

During his presidency, Landon will manage the affairs of the society and preside at all board of directors and executive committee meetings. He will also represent AWS at many of its local section meetings and other technical, national and international meetings. Having been mentored by some of the greatest in the welding industry, his

passion for training new welders and mentoring others will be the main focus of his presidential year. Consistent with his passion, the Iowa Section of AWS has launched the David J. Landon Scholarship. This endowment is made possible by the generous donations of the Iowa Section, Vermeer Corporation, and the matching gift program of AWS. The scholarship will enable young welders to develop and refine their skills through education and aid them in their efforts to accomplish extraordinary achievements in the industry.

Landon currently lives in Pella, IA, where he is the manager of welding engineering for Vermeer.
