Watch What You Wear

Studies show that only 60 percent of the 20 million employees required to wear eye and face protection actually comply. The consequence to this is an increase in eye injuries and their associated human and economic costs. Here is some of the newest PPE available to address this lack of protection.

BRINGS EYE PROTECTION INTO FOCUS
It is no secret that as we age, our eyesight deteriorates, and the demand for bifocal eye protection in the workplace is growing at a fast pace. Conqueror® MAG by Gateway Safety, Inc. (Cleveland, OH) is a bifocal safety eyewear solution in a design that end users find stylish and ultra comfortable. Conqueror MAG is an ideal product for those required to wear eye protection but who have trouble focusing on small things close up — such as blueprints, schematics, small parts, equipment settings, tools and more.

Highlighted by an attractive contemporary design, this eyewear has been found to be more comfortable and more cost effective than industry alternatives, featuring a soft rubber nosepiece and ergonomic, contoured temple tips that don’t pinch — ensuring all-day wearability with no slipping. The addition of bifocal magnification to Conqueror reduces the inherent risk of switching between regular safety glasses and reading glasses, a dangerous necessity that could result in errors and eye injuries.

Available in five diopter strengths from 1.0 to 3.0, Conqueror MAG, like all Gateway Safety glasses, shields workers from daily impact hazards. Its durable, one-piece polycarbonate wraparound lens meets and exceeds ANSI Z87.1+ and CSA Z94.3 standards. Conqueror MAG is available in Clear and Gray lens styles (Gray in 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5 diopters only). Each pair also comes with a free breakaway retainer.

Comfort has been shown to be a key factor in the regular and continued use of protective eyewear. Raising the bar on comfort can definitely result in increased compliance, so the company offers the innovative Parallax™ safety eyewear that features a patented temple design for superior comfort for all-day wear. The eyewear’s temple is composed of two parallel temple pieces, with a rigid, top temple component providing stability and the lower temple component made from a flexible polymer that acts as a cushion, minimizing pressure behind the ears. The temple’s two distinct components work together to maximize comfort without sacrificing safety. They also provide a distinguishing style.

Parallax has a single, large, wrap-around lens for exceptional protective coverage and an integrated brow guard protects against debris from above. Its soft gel nosepiece works with the temples to ensure the glasses stay securely in place. These safety glasses meet ANSI Z87+, CSA Z94.3, as well as the ballistic impact resistance requirements for eyewear as per U.S. military performance specification MIL PRF-31013.

Two safety glasses in the GirlzGear™ line are specifically tailored to women in the workforce. Parallax safety eyewear is available in two different pink options: one with a pink temple flex and clear lens, and another with a pink mirror lens and a gray temple flex. GirlzGear is a popular assembly of protective wear designed to help female workers who struggle with improperly fitting safety equipment, such as eyewear that slips off or pinches. Ill-fitting protective equipment can be a critical compliance concern, since PPE products are much more likely to be removed or not donned in the first place if the items are uncomfortable, inadequate, or just do not fit. GirlzGear safety products speak to the need for different equipment for women, and are offered in more sizes to fit the female frame.

Additional color options and styles help appeal to a broader audience as well. This is a trend that shops are embracing – the International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA) reports that many employers now provide a full range of sizes for PPE. Parallax broadens the assortment of safety products offered for women, beyond more traditional, basic styles. Its temples feature two parallel pieces – the top with a more rigid component to provide stability, and a lower component made from a flexible polymer to act as a cushion, relieving pinch points behind the ear. The contrasting colors between the two parts give it a one-of-a-kind appearance. Parallax meets ANSI Z87.1+, CSA Z94.3 and the ballistic impact resistance requirements for eyewear in U.S. Military Performance Specification MIL PRF-31013.

Women will find these glasses not only stylish but, with a patented temple design to alleviate discomfort behind the ears, ultra-comfortable too. In addition to Parallax, the growing line of GirlzGear eyewear choices now includes StarLite® SM and Scorpion® SM, two products that are sized ten percent smaller. StarLite Gumballs®, Metro® safety glasses and Serpent® safety helmets all come in attractive, stylish colors.

At just four-fifths of an ounce, Luminary® safety eyewear is ultra-lightweight — but it more than carries its weight in both comfort and protection, with superior comfort features that were engineered to target the “pinch point” areas behind the ears and at the bridge of the nose. As part of the Temple Technology™ Safety Eyewear line, Luminary takes comfort to a new level for workers who wear protective eyewear all day, every day.

Luminary offers unique qualities that eliminate pinching but promise a secure fit, regardless of the wearer’s head size. Its ultra-flexible temples self-adjust to accommodate wide or narrow faces, relieving pressure behind the ears. A rubberized coating on the temples prevents slipping, helping to ensure a snug fit. A “fingertip” nosepiece reduces slippage, so Luminary not only fits like a glove, but also stays securely in place. And, not to leave style out of the equation, translucent temple insets match the color of the lens, giving Luminary a cutting-edge appearance.
