ESAB Welding & Cutting Products (Florence, SC) is proud to be the official welding sponsor of the 2015 Nitto King of the Hammers, a grueling off-road race that combines high-speed desert racing and rock crawling in a 165-mile course set in Johnson Valley, CA.
A full week of racing will start on Sunday, February 1st, 2015 with more than 300 teams competing before more than 35,000 fans in person and nearly 500,000 watching online. ESAB and partner LetzRoll Offroad Racing will be onsite throughout the event to help drivers compete, offering all race teams free repairs, welding and cutting assistance and use of ESAB equipment and filler metals at the ESAB Solutions Tour Truck.
The Solutions Tour Truck is ESAB’s mobile showroom, equipped with the latest in welding and cutting equipment, filler metals and accessories. During the weeklong event, the ESAB Solutions Tour Truck will be open to any KOH team requiring welding or cutting support. ESAB will have welding and cutting experts on hand to share their knowledge and expertise with drivers and race teams.
KOH spectators will also have the opportunity to participate in the action. Spectators can stop by the ESAB truck throughout the week to meet and learn from members of the LetzRoll Offroad Racing team, watch repairs being made, or compete in ESAB’s hands-on Plasma Cutting Contest to win a manual plasma cutting system.
Drivers, team members, and spectators are all invited to visit the ESAB Solutions Tour Truck to share a personal offroad, welding and/or ESAB experience to receive free giveaways, including beanies, koozies, and t-shirts, and be entered to win a complete “mini-shop” with welding machine, plasma cutter, and gas outfit.
The LetzRoll Offroad Racing team, sponsored by ESAB, is building two new cars in two different Ultra4 Racing classes for the legendary Griffin King of the Hammers race to take place on February 6, 2015.
As Ultra4 Racing continues to grow, so does the competition. With a consistent Top 10 car, LetzRoll Offroad owner Andrew McLaughlin is ready to push harder in 2015, and the new season is bringing big changes for the team, including the switch from a solid axle to an Independent Front Suspension (IFS) on McLaughlin’s “Unlimited Class” #4493 buggy.
McLaughlin and his team rely on ESAB equipment for all their welding and cutting work. Fabrication of the #4493 buggy included the use of ESAB’s Crossbow oxy-fuel/plasma CNC cutting machine to increase cutting efficiency, ESAB’s MigMaster 215 for high quality MIG welding, and use of PowerCut 700 and 1300 machines for manual cutting operations.
“I expect this car to take the LetzRoll / ESAB team to the next level in both Ultra4 and desert racing,” McLaughlin said. “As the sport becomes more competitive so will the vehicles. We are at the tip of the spear and expect an excellent season.”
