The annual Automotive News All-Star Awards honor the best and brightest standout performers in the automotive industry. One such individual is Comau’s (Turin, Italy) Martin Kinsella, the director of advanced materials and process technologies. Martin received the 2014 All-Star Award in the Automotive Manufacturing category for his leadership and vision in helping to drive high volume automation methods and standards into advanced lightweight material body shops.
Working closely with major OEM’s, Comau’s Advanced Materials and Process Technologies group is constantly working to demonstrate, innovate and validate automated manufacturing methods for advanced multi-material body shops.
Comau also played a key role in helping to bring the American Lightweight Materials Manufacturing Innovation Institute (ALMMII) to Michigan. ALMMII, a partnership of a number of companies including Comau, is intended to be a “teaching factory” providing an opportunity for education and training of students and workers at all levels, while providing the shared assets to help companies access the cutting-edge capabilities and equipment to design, test and pilot new products and manufacturing processes.
Building future generations of talented automation engineers is a high priority at Comau. Martin and the Comau team actively support and mentor programs such as FIRST Robotics, Automation Workz and various awareness initiatives aimed at middle and high school students.
With automakers working to achieve new government mandated fuel efficiency standards by 2016 along with 2025 CAFE regulations, Comau will continue to invest in advanced materials technology and innovation in the automotive manufacturing industry.
