Shanda Allen joined the office staff at Hobart Institute of Welding Technology (Troy, OH) in August as registrar/bursar.
“I have spent the past 19 years in education in various capacities,” explains Allen. “My experiences range from teaching elementary school, teaching at the collegiate level, GED coordinator, student services coordinator as well as registrar. I am eager to meet, work and learn about the students and staff. I am intrigued with the idea of working for a company that is nationally known and has been around for many years.”
“Shanda is providing student services support to our students,” says Brenda Scott, the director of compliance and student services. “Her hours are from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm to increase staff availability to our second shift students as well as those who attend during the first shift.”
As an educator, Allen says she lives by the motto “Literacy unlocks the key throughout life.” She is from nearby Dayton and enjoys traveling, reading and spending time with her family.
Fred Henman is a new technical training instructor at Hobart Institute. Fred began his new job in August. He is an American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector and brings over twenty-five years of welding, supervision and inspection experience to HIWT.
“I am looking forward to applying my experience and knowledge to my new career as a Technical Training Instructor,” Henman commented. “I started welding in 1977 and I have training experience with blueprint reading, welding, fabrication, and gauge calibration.”
“We are pleased to have Fred as part of our staff,” says Elmer Swank, the senior technical instructor. “He will be teaching Welding Technology and Blueprint Reading and Weldability of Metals, Ferrous and Nonferrous skill courses and will also be instructing various technical courses.”
Henman and his wife live in Springfield, Ohio, and enjoy fishing, going to flea markets, and spending time with their grandchildren.
