User-friendliness is guaranteed by CELOS, the control platform from DMG MORI (Chicago, IL) that incorporates adjustable displays for improved ergonomics, SMARTkey® access for personalized operator authorization, and customized access privileges to the control and machine.

With development work increasingly focused on optimizing customer processes, CELOS marks a turning point for shops wanting to simplify and accelerate the manufacturing process “from the idea to the finished product” to form the basis of paperless manufacturing. DMG MORI now presents an impressive total of 23 machines equipped with CELOS as a uniform interface for all of their new high-tech machine tools.

CELOS APPs provide shops with integrated and digitized management, documentation and visualization of order, process and machine data that is as easy and intuitive to use as a smartphone, compatible with PPS and ERP systems, suitable for networking with CAD/CAM applications and ready for future CELOS APP extensions.

This control platform is available for all customers in the U.S. and will be a valuable tool to boost productivity now that the North American manufacturing industry is rebounding. Additional support comes from the DMG MORI manufacturing plant and Digital Technology Lab in Davis, CA, that opened in July of 2012. With a capacity of up to 100 machines per month, this domestic plant manufactures two world premiere machines, the NHX 4000 2nd Generation and NHX 5000 2nd Generation, along with the NHX 6300 and the DuraVertical 5100 and DMU 50 machines.

This creates strategic advantages for the manufacturer, while customers benefit from local service and support with machine tools that perform with high speed and accuracy, rigidity and energy savings.

The location in Davis, not far from Sacramento and only one hour from San Francisco, has a long tradition. The 200,000 sq ft machine tool factory was built adjacent to the design center and Digital Technology Laboratory (DTL), which Mori Seiki developed 14 years ago to research machine tool designs, controls and pallet systems. The establishment of the manufacturing plant created further opportunities for R&D in the U.S., while the region provides excellent engineering talent.
