Correlated Magnetics Research LLC (CMR; New Hope, AL) and Industrial Magnetics Incorporated (IMI; Boyne City, MI) announce the formation of a new partnership that will provide Polymagnet systems and advanced magnetics design and assembly services for industrial applications.

Michigan-based Industrial Magnetics is a market leader in providing permanent and electromagnetic products for applications ranging from general manufacturing to automated solutions in workholding, lifting, fixturing, conveying and magnetic separation of ferrous metal. Through this partnership, IMI is able to expand its offering in advanced magnetics systems to include custom-engineered Polymagnet assemblies and entirely new magnetic applications.

“Unique solutions are at the core of who we are as a company. IMI has always strived to be at the forefront of next-gen, disruptive magnetic technology in terms of breaking the traditional views and perceived barriers of magnetic capabilities. With the new Polymagnet technology from CMR, the quality and performance of our products will reach entirely new levels of value, because this technology greatly expands what is practical, and even what is possible, in magnetics,” IMI president Dennis O’Leary said.

“Industrial Magnetics represents CMR’s first advanced Polymagnet consultancy and supplier for industrial and manufacturing applications. With over 50 years of experience in continuous magnetics development and application, IMI can deliver custom Polymagnets and provide expert design and prototyping services for the growing Polymagnet consumer base,” CMR president and chief executive officer Andy Keane said.

CMR’s technology includes an expanding library of pre-engineered Polymagnet functions such as magnetic springs, latches or connectors that can self-align to a very tight tolerance. This library of magnetic functions is accessible through the CMR Polymagnet Catalog and is augmented through customized design, development and integration at IMI.

A Polymagnet is a patterned magnet tailored to deliver higher-performance and novel magnetic functions that designers can integrate into consumer and industrial products. Each Polymagnet is a system of smaller magnets that combine to deliver stronger, safer and entirely new magnet functions not possible with conventional magnets.

When used for attachment, a Polymagnet concentrates the strength near the surface of the magnet. This not only increases the attachment force to more than double that of a conventional magnet, but it also reduces the risk to magnetically sensitive electronics and the accidental attraction of nearby metal or other magnets.

Correlated Magnetics Research is the inventor of correlated magnetic systems technology for consumer and industrial applications. CMR’s MagPrinter® systems and Polymagnet Catalog of advanced magnetic functions deliver unprecedented functionality for permanent magnet materials. CMR was founded in 2008 to pursue the new technology of correlated magnetics and has been awarded over 90 patents for a fundamentally new magnetics system and magnet function technology.
