The Programmable  Control Unit (PCU) from Tapeswitch Corporation (Farmingdale, NY) is a versatile and cost effective solution to bridge the gap in between traditional safety relays and PLC systems.

MODULAR TECHNOLOGY FOR VARIOUS APPLICATIONS AND SAFETY DEVICES The Tapeswitch strategy is to introduce a machine safety control unit assisting  the  machine builder, rebuilder, and end  user with integrating a fully programmable safety control unit. This is a viable and cost effective solution to solve applications in the market, such as upgrading traditional safety relays without incurring the higher costs of a PLC system, providing for a custom safety control unit that is capable of handling multiple safety devices in tandem, managing programming of logic control functions for those devices, multiple machinery locations and machine safety integration in tandem, and integration of safety devices with existing PLC systems.

This PCU/1 main control unit is modular and can accept a total of 14 expansion modules, creating a  system that can have up to 128 inputs,  16 dual channel safety outputs, and 16 status outputs to handle your machine safety configurations, devices, and networks. Tapeswitch Corporation also offers an integrated PCU/1 main unit with PCUEU/1 expansion unit for additional multiple safety fail–safe  devices.

PROGRAMMABLE SAFETY CONTROL UNIT FOR MOST MACHINE SAFETY DEVICES This new PCU safety control unit is a modular series of machine safety control units makes machine safety integration easier and programmable with logic control functions for all your safety devices, such as multiple combinations of mats, edges, bumpers, laser scanners, light curtains, non-contact safety switches, photocells, mechanical switches, emergency stops, two hand controls.

The Programmable Control Unit (PCU) is certified up to a CAT 4 SIL CL 3 SIL 3 Ple safety level performance, depending upon the safety device capabilities, system configuration, and installation. For complete Programmable  Control Unit (PCU) product specifications, click here.

For over 55 years, Tapeswitch has manufactured/offered OEM/Machine builder solutions of general purpose signaling switch products commercial/industrial for sectors, presence sensing/sensing switch products for industrial/commercial sectors, machine safety-rated safety/guarding products for machinery/equipment OEM and machine builder sectors and a custom manufacturing switch product division for switches/mats/edges/bumpers for OEM sector (fee-based) in global markets.

Their product lines currently include ribbon switches, touch pads, sensing cells, foot/hand switches, small area switches and presence detection/sensing switches/mats/edges/bumpers and machine safety-rated switches, mats, edges, bumpers, light curtains, laser scanners, programmable and modular safety controllers, non-contact safety switches, and power isolation and access (lock-out) trapped key interlocks.

Regional Applications Managers provide and configure custom solutions consisting of availability of multiple products, application requirements, product specification requirements, engineering, as applied to many commercial/industrial/machinery applications from a simple single signaling application in commercial/industrial sectors to a machine safety-rated application in packaging, plastics, metalworking, material handling, robotics, paper, waste, processing, building and facilities, and engineering sectors.
