Hexagon Metrology (North Kingstown, RI) announced the commercial availability of ROMER measuring arm packages equipped with PC-DMIS Touch Portable, a revolutionary measurement software. Utilizing high-resolution Multi-Touch display technology on a tablet PC, users physically interact with the software’s guided measurement sequences and report templates.

New PC-DMIS Touch is a multi-touch version of PC-DMIS inspection software with a streamlined Windows 8 interface and simplified operation. It Works with ROMER arms and DCC CMMs.

PC-DMIS Touch offers an entirely new look, feel and workflow to complete measurement tasks. One-time dimensions are executed through intuitive automated measurement sequences while more complex measurement plans are created by simply following guided measurement sequences and measuring features directly on the part. A graphical representation of the measured features is always displayed in the center of the interface—right where it’s needed—during all measurement tasks.

The system organizes measurement plan features intuitively by “Face,” a new concept for the traditional work-plane. The user is guided through measurement processes using a full set of inspection tools, such as simple feature measurement, construction of features or feature sets, 2D and 3D dimensional reporting, GD&T configuration and more. Each of these tasks follows a consistent, intuitive sequence that is quickly learned with minimal training. PC-DMIS Touch also allows for execution of existing PC-DMIS routines with a simple swipe of the finger.

The PC-DMIS Touch interface is particularly well suited to ROMER portable arm users. The ROMER arm’s zero-g counterbalance design that allows single-handed operation leaves the second hand free to interact with the touch screen. Non-repetitive measuring activities that are typical of measuring arms are ideal for the PC-DMIS Touch no-programming-required interface.

“PC-DMIS Touch represents the future of inspection software, leveraging the latest advancements in operating system and hardware form factors,” states Ken Woodbine, president of the PC-DMIS software division of Hexagon Metrology.

“The user experience includes full touch gesturing and utilization of color in distinctive ways to guide the user through a task. It becomes an immersive experience that allows any user to accomplish their job swiftly and easily. ROMER arm users will particularly appreciate this ease of use based on an arm’s typical applications and diverse measurement workflows.”
