The friction welding machinery manufacturer has won $15 million worth of new orders, with four machines bound for the U.S. and nine in Asia, Europe and the Americas.

Friction welding specialist Thompson Friction Welding (Halesowen, UK) has won more than $15 million worth of new orders, with four machines bound for the U.S. The welding equipment manufacturer is to build a total of nine friction welding machines for customers in Asia, Europe and the Americas.

Thompson has been chosen by a world-renowned manufacturer to supply four machines to its factories in the United States and a further pair to a plant in Mexico for producing piston rods. The other contracts have been won from a Chinese truck axle manufacturer and two Swedish companies who will use the machines for making exploration drill pipes and electrical connectors.

These machines are used to join components in aircraft, commercial vehicles, construction machines and oil and gas exploration tools.

Thompson, which celebrates the 50th anniversary of its first-ever friction weld in May, has also acquired an additional temporary manufacturing facility to cope with its strong order book. Last year, the company won a large number of orders to produce equipment for construction machine and mining tool equipment makers in Europe and North America.

“Companies continue to choose our machines, not only for their quality and durability, but also because of our reputation for first class technical service and support,” said Nick McCarthy, the North American sales manager for Thompson USA (Sterling Heights, MI). www.thompson-friction-welding.com
