Mazak Corporation (Florence, KY) recently hired William Dowdy as an application engineering manager for its new Southwest Regional Headquarters and Technology Center in Houston, TX, which serves as the company’s center of expertise for the growing energy sector.
With more than 20 years of experience in the machine tool industry, Dowdy is responsible for assisting manufacturing customers throughout the Southwest region with optimizing their part-processing operations for improved throughput, shortened lead times and increased productivity.
Dowdy most recently was a sales support manager for a North Carolina supplier of precision machine tools, where he provided support to sales staff in an eight-state territory. He has more than six years of experience as a CNC programmer and eight years as an applications engineer. He has been a customer advocate and sales manager for the past 12 years.
“William not only has the technical know-how but also the customer service skills to help Mazak customers develop and apply the right solutions for their manufacturing needs,” said Dana Scott, the general manager of Mazak Southwest. “We’re thrilled to have him join our team and to work hand-in-hand with our customers to increase productivity and profitability.”
Dowdy attended Delaware Community College where he studied manufacturing and has experience with a variety of machine tools, including Mazak. The machine tool builder’s new 30,000 sq ft Southwest Regional Headquarters and Technology Center is located on 4.5 acres of land in the Greenspoint District of Houston. The new facility marks the company’s third and largest expansion of its Southwest Technology Center, which was originally established in 1978, then expanded in 1982.
Representing a continuous investment in American manufacturing and the Southwest region in particular, the Southwest Technology Center offers support to manufacturers in all industries, with a special focus on those serving the energy sector. For these growing local area industries, Mazak, unlike any other machine tool builder, has continually expanded in the Southwest to meet the needs of and partner with customers.
The new Southwest Technology Center provides more customer training and technology seminars than ever before, as well as provide enhanced service and applications support on larger model machines, including those within the INTEGREX Multi-Tasking Series, that are geared to the area’s specific energy manufacturing requirements. The facility also offers customers opportunities to collaborate with the company and its VIP cutting tool, workholding and automation partners to develop the best possible complete manufacturing solutions for overcoming production challenges within the energy sector, as well as within other key regional industries.
Mazak is a leader in the design and manufacture of productivity-improving machine tool solutions. Committed to being a partner to customers with innovative technology, its world-class facility in Florence recently increased its production capacity to 200 machines per month. Continuous training and development of the workforce have created a “lean” culture, which has created opportunities for continuing growth in America.
Mazak maintains eight Technology Centers across North America to provide local hands-on applications, service and sales support to its customers. www.mazakusa.com
