In Booth C-8137, Hexagon Metrology Inc. (North Kingstown, RI) offers its latest laser scanner technology for portable measuring arms. The ROMER Absolute Arm with integrated laser scanner is a portable CMM for both tactile and non-contact 3D measurement. The laser scanner is completely integrated into the arm, which allows the measuring arm to be certified as complete system according to international standards such as B89 or VDI/VDE.
The integrated laser scanner for the ROMER Absolute Arm is now significantly faster, and laser scanning can now be carried out wirelessly. The enhanced scanner is now more rapid compared to previous versions, offering an acquisition speed of up to 50,000 points per second that enables users to move the scanner over the measurement object faster than before while achieving the same high data quality, even on difficult to scan surfaces like high-gloss carbon-fibre. This means users can now scan up to 66 percent more surface area in the same amount of time.
Hexagon Metrology is also launching a new Wireless Scanning Pack option for the ROMER Absolute Arm with integrated laser scanner that allows any arm with an integrated scanner to be operated totally wireless and at the same data transmission speed as with a traditional cable.
For unlimited wireless operation in the field, the Wireless Scanning Pack also includes a dual ‘hot swappable’ battery system where one battery can be charged continuously while the other is in use. This option is offered as an accessory and is compatible with all new and existing ROMER Absolute Arms with integrated laser scanner. Installation can be completed by the user and in just a few minutes.
Hexagon Metrology has also updated and enhanced its Version 1.1 firmware for the Leica AT401 Absolute Tracker, which now features a full speed digital read out (DRO) for dynamic laser tracker measurement processes and free-form surface inspection. The ultra-portable 3D laser tracker enables high-speed measurements for complex applications, such as large-scale inspections, component adjustments, alignments and the building of jigs and fixtures.

The Leica Absolute Tracker AT401 performs measurements without a warm-up period, allowing the operator to turn on the system and start measuring within seconds. The upgrade also introduces specialized features, such as “Outdoor Mode” which elevates performance when the tracker is used in adverse conditions like rain or snow.
Other improvements include the use of several reflectors in view of the sensor at the same time. The laser tracker’s built-in WiFi can now be used in a company’s encrypted WiFi infrastructure even with several sensors in the same network. The firmware further facilitates user compensation of the sensor, allowing the operator to quickly see where reflectors are placed.
