These new grinding products deliver high grinding performance, exceptionally fast cycle times and low cost per parts on carbide and high-speed steel round tool fluting.

Saint-Gobain Abrasives (Worcester, MA), the world’s largest abrasives manufacturer, will have Norton Paradigm Diamond and CBN Wheels in Booth N-7051 at IMTS 2012. These are positioned in the “Best” tier of Norton grinding products. Paradigm wheels feature a new proprietary, patent-pending bond delivering high grinding performance on carbide and high-speed steel round tool fluting, resulting in exceptionally fast cycle times and low cost per parts.

“The new patent pending bond on Paradigm Diamond and CBN wheels enables high performance one-pass flute grinding for highly efficient round tool manufacturing operations,” says Matt Simmers, a product manager at Norton. For maximum productivity, new Paradigm wheels are online and offline truable. Wheels are wear/load resistant for superior grinding on 6 percent to 12 percent cobalt and offer better control over core growth. A high grain retention and uniform structure provides a high G-ratio (ratio of material removal rate versus wheel wear) up to 2.5X longer wheel life and a 30 percent higher material removal rate than other superabrasive wheels.

Paradigm Diamond and CBN Wheels offer low specific cutting energy that enables faster grinding with a lower power draw and less burn. They are all custom-manufactured to precisely meet end-user requirements. Wheels are available for Anca®, Makino®, Rollomatic®, Star®, Walter® and other leading grinding systems. Diamond wheels are available for tungsten carbide and CBN wheels are offered for high-speed steel applications.

Saint-Gobain Abrasives will also have Norton QUANTUM™ X Creepfeed Wheels, featuring three proprietary technologies to create the “ultimate” wheel for free-cutting. The leading technologies that comprise Quantum X include a patented pore-induced construction, Quantum ceramic abrasive and the latest, strongest patented bond. The new wheels are positioned in the “Best” tier of Norton grinding products to provide the best metal removal rates compared to all other ceramic creepfeed wheels.

The Quantum X wheels are ideal for a variety of applications ranging from low to medium and high-force on heat sensitive, hard-to-grind Inconel, titanium and aerospace alloys. These new creepfeed wheels excel on large areas of contact applications and offer exceptional form and corner-holding. “Quantum X wheels reduce grinding cycle times up to 50 percent while using over 20 percent less power,” says Jim Gaffney, a product manager at Norton. “These new wheels provide the highest productivity by featuring the longest wheel life combined with the fastest grind cycle time.”

Quantum X creepfeed wheels are available in blank stock in a type 01 Straight Wheel in six sizes ranging from 16 in. x 1 in. x 5 in. (D x T x H) to 20 in. x 5 in. x 8 in. (D x T x H). Quantum X unfinished blank stock wheels are also available in various abrasives and grit sizes and can be quickly customized to meet dimensional requirements. Quantum X wheels are ideal for aerospace, automotive and energy applications, among others. www.nortonindustrial.com
