Make Data Transfer a Snap: Both wire-based units offer a simple plug-and-play set up to gather data from measuring tools such as electronic height or depth gages or other precision measurement products and transfer that data to a PC.
The L.S. Starrett Company (Athol, MA), a global manufacturer of precision tools and metrology equipment and other tools, offers its 4-Port Gage Multiplexer line and SmartCable for a fast and easy way to connect a measuring tool to a PC. Both wire-based products offer a simple plug and play set up to gather data from measuring tools such as the company’s popular electronic height or depth gages or other Starrett precision measurement products and transfer that data to a PC.
The line of 4-Port Gage multiplexers makes it simple to connect multiple gages to a PC. Both models in the line, the 7612 and 7613, support USB 2.0, RS232 and USB Keyboard optional outputs. Each model also offers a built-in, power saving mode, as well as Foot Switch input, LED status light on each input, host command operation and set up. The 7612 Gage MUX does not require a software wedge or other intermediary software for operation. A user’s PC “sees” the connection with the 7612 multiplexer as a keyboard. Users simply open any document on their computer that accepts input, position the cursor and send the data from the tool.
The 7613 USB 4-Port Gage is similar to the 7612 except that it does not have the keyboard function. It requires a Starrett 719 Software Wedge™ or a similar product to input data into a PC.
The SmartCable also makes transferring data to a PC a snap. The SmartCable interface provides the ability to connect through USB and USB keyboard outputs, and it does not require a software wedge or other intermediary software. Similar to the 7612 multiplexer, a user’s PC “sees” the connection from the SmartCable as a keyboard. Simply open any document on a PC that accepts data, position the cursor and then send the data.
Starrett also offers the SmartCable 795SCU model that provides USB output for the Starrett 795 Series Micrometers, and the 733SKU that works flawlessly with the Starrett 733 micrometers and 2600 indicators. Both models require the use of a Starrett 719 Software Wedge or a similar product to input the data to a PC.
“The new Starrett 4-Port Gage multiplexers and SmartCable offer our customers a simple, innovative wire-based solution for transferring data from a measuring tool,” said John Richardson, the precision tool product manager of Starrett. “Now our customers can select either our wired-based or wireless DataSure solution for data capture depending on their needs.”
