Stevens Engineering Inc. (Phoenix, AZ) manufactures a wide variety of tombstones, in sizes up to 40 in square by 60 in overall height, and in several shapes, including rectangular, four-sided, Silo construction, triangular, hexagonal and octagonal.
These tombstones are made from steel, having much higher tensile strength than cast iron or aluminum. In addition, they are far more rigid than cast versions. Steel bulkheads, welded flush to the top surface, add to the rigidity of the structure and prevent entry of contaminants into the interior. Furnace stress relieving of the structure prior to finish machining assures long-term stability.
