VERTICAL MACHINING CENTERS USE ADVANCED MULTI-TASKING TECHNOLOGY

Matsuura CUBLEX-35 and -63 machining centers from Methods Machine Tools offer greater loading capacity, larger work size capability, travel and ATC magazines.

Methods Machine Tools, Inc.'s (Sudbury, MA) Matsuura 5-axis vertical machining centers feature multi-pallet systems for full lights-out production capability and the industry's most advanced multi-tasking technology, CUBLEX. Matsuura's unique CUBLEX multi-process technology provides 5-axis milling, vertical and horizontal turning, and optional grinding capabilities, all in one high performance platform.

"With the addition of the two latest machines, Matsuura now provides our customers with a full lineup of machine choices for manufacturing highly complex components using industry-leading CUBLEX multi-process technology, including the ability to machine larger, heavier parts on the CUBLEX-63," said Dave Lucius, vice president of sales, Methods Machine Tools.

The two new Matsuura models include the CUBLEX-35 PC32, featuring a 13.8 in (350 mm) dia x 9.5 in (240 mm) H max work size and a 32 APC system. The CUBLEX 35 offers a maximum loading capacity of 132 lb (60 kg) on its tilting axis table. Its expandable automatic tool changer (ATC) features a standard 320-tool base with 520 tools as an option. X-Y-Z-axis travel is 22.4 in/16.1 in/20.1 in (570 mm/410 mm/525 mm) on the CUBLEX-35.

The larger CUBLEX-63 PC-18 features a maximum work size of 24.8 in (630 mm) dia x 17.7 in (450 mm) H and up to an 18-pallet APC system, or it can be added to a full flexible manufacturing system (FMS) production line system. The CUBLEX-63 is constructed with a trunnion-style direct-drive A/C-axes and has a load capacity of 772 lb (350 kg). A standard 320-tool ATC is expandable to 520 tools. The CUBLEX-63 X/Y/Z travels are 30 in/33.3 in/26 in (760 mm/845 mm/660 mm).

The CUBLEX-35 features a 3,000 rpm direct drive C-axis. The CUBLEX-63 offers a 1,300 rpm direct drive C-axis, the highest C-axis rotation speed in its class. Industry-leading CAMplete TruePath software is standard on the CUBLEX machines and offers users the ability to analyze, modify, optimize and verify 5-axis toolpaths in a seamless 5-view 3-D environment.
