DEWALT (Towson, MD) launched a new line of hubbed thin wheel and contaminant-free thin wheel abrasives that are ideal for welders, fabricators and mechanical contractors tasked with cutting pipe, stainless steel and metal.
"We spent significant time talking to abrasives users on jobsites across the country about their needs and frustrations with thin wheels," said Brad Nohr, product manager. "Not surprisingly, our customers asked for a versatile product line that delivered longer life. Based on these findings, we designed the new line of wheels to last approximately three times longer than current wheels on the market."
HUBBED THIN WHEEL
The new hubbed thin wheels are built with 5/8 in to 11 in threaded hubs that eliminate the need for a backing flange and nut. Interchangeable with other spin-on hub systems, the new wheels offer abrasive users a versatile solution that helps reduce downtime.
The two-piece hub design allows for maximum cutting depth because the wheel hub sits on top of the raised center of the wheel. With the thread on the bottom of the wheel, the wheel tightens onto the shaft as it's being used and practically eliminates the possibility of slippage that may occur with conventional hubs.
Additionally, the line provides professionals with a greater return on investment by lasting approximately three times longer than competing products. The company is offering all of its 4½ in through 7 in Type 27 thin wheels with the new hub design in both high-performance and extended-performance wheels.
CONTAMINANT-FREE THIN WHEELS
The new contaminant-free thin wheels are ideal for cutting stainless steel where rust contamination is not allowed. The contaminant-free thin wheels last approximately three times longer than current competitive thin wheels on the market, and because the wheels contain less than 0.1 percent of iron, sulfur or chlorine, they will not contaminate stainless steel. The new range of contaminant-free thin wheels is offered in sizes from 4½ in to 7 in and in Type 1 and Type 27 wheels.
