This advanced machining center with an automated material handling system offers flexible unattended production for as many as 16 machines, with up to eight loading and unloading stations.

The Horizontal Center Nexus 6800-II from Mazak (Florence, KY) can be equipped with the new Palletech High Rise-3 System with anywhere from 12 to 200 pallets in a 3-tier system that can serve as many as 16 machines with up to eight loading and unloading stations.

Featuring a 10,000 rpm, 50 hp integral motor spindle, the HCN 6800-II delivers a maximum feed rate of 2,362 ipm at 0.8 G acceleration for quick starts and contouring. A two-pallet changer is standard and pre-engineered to interface with the Palletech material handling system for lights-out operation. Pallet size is 24.8 in x 24.8 in, with a maximum load capacity of 3,307 lb. X, Y, and Z axis travels are 41.34 in, 35.4 in, and 38.5 in, respectively.

This machine tool’s productivity is further enhanced via a roller gear cam on the optional NC rotary table. The table indexes 90 deg in 1.9 sec, adding speed to the machine’s operations. Chip-to-chip tool change time is only 4.2 sec. Tool storage choices include 40, 80, 120 and 160 tools, or up to a maximum of 330 tools with the Tool Hive magazine.

The MX Hybrid Roller Guide System is integrated into the HCN 6800-II to deliver levels of durability and reliability that result in long-term accuracy. The MX Hybrid Roller Guide System increases vibration dampening to extend tool life, handles higher load capacities, accelerates and decelerates quicker to shorten cycle times, consumes less oil for “greener” operations, and lasts longer with less required maintenance.

The Matrix CNC provides 64-bit processing power to handle the large amounts of data required in multiple, complex part programs. Program size is 2 MB, with 8 MB optional. Matrix reduces cycle times by up to 30 percent compared with previous controls. The Voice Advisor audibly updates the operator with machine status selections and safety warnings. Additionally, 3D graphics allow for realistic and accurate simulation of the machining program and identification of potential interference conditions, greatly limiting the need for test cuts.
