Mississippi Steel Processing, LLC announced an expansion of its new facility located on the campus of the Severstal Steel Mill in Columbus, MS. Although the MSP facility is presently under construction, plans have been modified to begin the second phase processing bay which will ultimately add 72,000 sq ft to the facility. The extra space accommodates a new 5/8 in x 74 ft x 90,000 lb slitting line and a new crane.
MSP president Chip Gerber explained, "Our discussions with potential customers and general market feedback indicated enough demand for processing heavier gauge material to justify having the heavier capacity slitter here and running sooner than originally planned. It's a little unusual to 'expand' the plant when it's less than 50 percent built, but now is the time it can be done with reduced cost and minimal disruption to the project schedule."
