Getting a complete part off a turning center in one shot can reduce cycle times, minimize operator handling, increase throughput, improve accuracy and reduce work-in-process. The DS-30Y from Haas Automation (Oxnard, CA) combines dual-spindle turning with Y axis, C axis and live tooling to create a versatile "done-in-one" machining solution for any shop.
The DS-30Y has a maximum cutting capacity of 18 in x 23 in, with maximum swings of 31.75 in over the front apron and 20.75 in over the cross slide. The machine's dual spindles provide synchronized turning capability for clean part cut-off, and allow backside machining to reduce handling and increase accuracy. The A2-6 main spindle is equipped with an 8.3 in hydraulic chuck, and powered by a 30 hp vector drive system that provides 275 ft-lb of torque for heavy cuts. The A2-5 secondary spindle also features an 8.3 in hydraulic chuck and is powered by a 20-hp vector drive system that provides 150 ft-lb of cutting torque. Both spindles have a 2 in bar capacity and turn to 4000 rpm.
Additional standard equipment includes rigid tapping, spindle orientation, a 15 in color LCD monitor and a USB port. Available high-productivity options include a belt-type chip conveyor, automatic tool probe, automatic parts catcher and high-pressure coolant systems.
