These moving column horizontal boring mills use 4th-axis machining for manufacturers of large components where precision is critical.

High performance FEELER FBM-Series moving column horizontal boring mills from Methods Machine Tools, Inc. (Sudbury, MA) are enhanced with extensive design and engineering to deliver a new level of performance.

“New FEELER boring mills feature ultra-high precision for machining large workpieces and offer full 4th axis machining capabilities,” said Paul Hurtig, FEELER product manager, Methods Machine Tools. “The boring mills are ideally suited for manufacturers of large components where precision is critical, including those in the energy sector.”

For precise machining of large components, FBM-Series boring mills are equipped with Heidenhain linear scales on the X, Y and Z-axes. The FBM-Series comes with either a 4.3 in (110 mm) or 5 in (130 mm) quill, and a W-axis with 27 in (700 mm) of travel. The FBM-Series includes four models, all featuring a moving column (Z-axis) T-type base. The FBM-110/130-Series horizontal boring mills feature a fixed table with a maximum table load ranging from 13,200 lb (6,000 kg) to 26,400 lb (12,000 kg). The FBM-110R/130R-Series of horizontal boring mills feature a built-in, fully programmable rotary table with a maximum capacity of 33,000 lb (15,000 kg). The rotary table is available in 55 in (1,400 mm) x 63 in (1,600 mm) or 79 in (2,000 mm) x 71 in (1,800 mm) sizes.
