Pepperl+Fuchs (Twinsburg, OH) introduces WTS10 Weld Cap Sensors. These diffuse mode sensors check the quality of welding cap fronts and detects faults such as inclusions, faulty dressing or burrs. These sensors provide high stability against discrepancies in the position and angle of the welding cap. They check upper and lower welding caps simultaneously and provide pre-fault (near the limit) indication for proactive maintenance to help improve welding productivity. A push-button teach mode facilitates quick and easy sensor programming.

"WTS10 sensors are an improvement over related sensor products for evaluating weld cap quality because they provide increased switching accuracy, and can detect even the minutest deviations. They also deliver larger, more consistent light spot diameter and parallel beam path to evaluate every spot on the welding cap equally, for maximized repeatability and accuracy," says Tom Corbett, Product Manager.

WTS sensors provide a consistent detection range of 2 ? 12mm regardless of the length of the welding cap, or whether the welding cap is brand new or a fully dressed tip. Highly visible LEDs provide quick and easy to understand status indication for "good," "pre-fault" and "fault" weld tip status. Coaxial optics with parallel beam path, a new display concept with easy to read and understand status indication, greater switching accuracy, a uniform light spot over the entire sensing range, and a high positional and tilting angle tolerance characterize the sensor
