CGI Receives Excellent Supplier Award

CGI Automated Manufacturing (Romeoville, IL) has received the 2009 Excellent Supplier Award of the American Purchasing Society. CGI is one of only two companies to earn the award in 2009 and the only U.S. company named Excellent Supplier.

CGI was nominated for the award by Focal Point, a Chicago-based manufacturer of light fixtures and lighting systems. The American Purchasing Society is a professional association of buyers and purchasing managers with members in all 50 states and 28 countries.

"CGI provides 1,165 line items to our company and has maintained a nearly perfect delivery and quality record during their 14 years of providing sheet metal fabrication and contract manufacturing services to us," says Tricia Kerns, Material Manager at Focal Point. "They did not know we entered this nomination on their behalf, and we're very happy the American Purchasing Society agrees with us that the performance of CGI Automated Manufacturing is exemplary and deserves recognition."

In January of 2009, CGI relocated from its original Cicero location to a new manufacturing facility on Innovation Drive in Romeoville, IL. The new facility provides cutting edge automation including an eight-tower, 92-shelf integrated material handling storage system and dual lasers controlled by the Mitsubishi River Navigation automated production system.

"Since our founding in 1976, CGI has continually invested in new technologies that help us provide diversified services and leading edge quality for valued customers such as Focal Point," says Janice Nieman, who along with her brother, Gary Gurzynski, own and manage CGI. "Our recent purchase of a 6-axis Articulated Portable CMM is another example of CGI's commitment to providing the quality today's customers require."

The 2009 Excellent Supplier Award was presented by Tricia Kerns and Cathy Santiago of Focal Point to Janice Nieman and Gary Gurzynski at the CGI location in Romeoville. Judging criteria for the Excellent Supplier Award includes: on-time delivery, number of shipments without a reject and overall cost competitiveness.

In her nomination of CGI Automated Manufacturing for the award, Tricia Kerns observed, "CGI provides excellent customer service, quality, pricing, short lead times and quick prototyping."

Focal Point is a global supplier of architectural and energy-efficient commercial lighting systems. The Focal Point headquarters were LEED Gold certified in 2009 by the U. S. Green Building Council.
