The Connersville, IN, facility of Sapa Extrusions?Industrial has achieved certification of its Quality System to the ABS Quality Assurance Program of the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS; Houston, TX). The Sapa facility is one of only two aluminum extruders in the United States to have qualified for this prestigious designation since ABS aluminum mill certification became mandatory in 2006. (Previously, other U.S. aluminum extrusion and hot rolled product mills were approved on a voluntary basis.)
The ABS certification allows the Connersville facility to produce ABS approved grades of AA 6061 aluminum alloy extrusions with temper designations of T6 in thicknesses up to 10 mm. As a result, Sapa will be able to supply material for critical naval/marine applications, oil and gas industry supply vessels and the growing luxury yacht industry.
Tim Myers, Connersville operations manager, commented on the unique opportunities afforded by the certification. ?This achievement is a strategic component in our commitment to providing solutions for our customers. It complements our recent investments in people and technology, including specialized press and fabrication capabilities, and enables us to serve as a highly qualified supplier to the marine industry.?
?We congratulate the Connersville operation on their ABS certification,? added Charlie Straface, general manager, Sapa Extrusions ? Industrial. ?This is recognition of the efforts of our functional teams to diversify into new areas to provide solutions to Sapa?s North American customers.?
