The Yorkville, OH, cold rolling mill of Severstal Wheeling, Inc. (Wheeling, WV) resumes operations on December 13 to provide additional cold rolling capacity to Severstal North America. Yorkville, idled since June 2009, will finish sheet steel made at Severstal Sparrows Point for delivery to customers and Severstal Wheeling's Martins Ferry coating operation.
The return to operation of the mill will better balance supply and finishing capabilities within Severstal North America and reflects increasing demand for cold rolled and coated products. The number of employees to be recalled will vary with production demands.
Severstal North America is the fourth largest steelmaker in the U.S. and specializes in the full range of the highest quality light flat rolled products. Fully integrated operations are located in Michigan, Maryland, Ohio and West Virginia. A new state-of-the-art electric arc furnace operation in Mississippi serves the growing demand for steel in the southeastern U.S. Severstal North America also has several joint ventures for the highest quality coated products.
