Miller Electric Mfg. Co. (Appleton, WI) reenters the DC sub arc arena with the introduction of two new Sub Arc DC Series power sources, a heavy-duty, four-wheel drive Sub Arc Tractor and complete sub arc system components. The Sub Arc DC 650 and Sub Arc DC 1000 are the company?s first DC power sources specifically optimized for the sub arc process and have been designed to produce the arc characteristics preferred in the industry.
The Sub Arc DC 650 (650 A, 100 percent duty cycle) and Sub Arc DC 1000 (1000 A, 100 percent duty cycle) power sources feature arc characteristics that have been optimized specifically for the sub arc process, while also providing air carbon arc cutting and gouging, stick and flux cored capabilities. The Sub Arc series? arc control provides a stable and consistent output regardless of electrode size or type or flux used.
The Sub Arc DC series features an internal digital voltage control, allowing the operator to preset weld voltage before striking an arc. When used with the HDC 1500 DX controller, current/amperage can also be preset. The Sub Arc DC power sources also allow the use of external voltage sensing leads for accurate monitoring of the arc voltage. The ability to preset and maintain accurate voltage eliminates the guesswork from setting parameters and ensures day-to-day consistency.
Line Voltage Compensation technology ensures that the Sub Arc DC?s output will not vary even if primary input power varies by ±10 percent. The Sub Arc DC also features Fan-On-Demand?, which reduces noise, power consumption and contaminants pulled into the machine by turning on the fan only when required by the thermostatically controlled circuit. This is different from competitive equipment that turns on the fan whenever the contactor is energized.
The Sub Arc Tractor can easily connect to a Sub Arc DC or Summit Arc 1000 AC sub arc power source. The four-wheel-drive, self-propelled tractor features digital readouts with pre-settable travel speeds, which are precisely controlled by a microprocessor for steady travel speed even on slight inclines. Chain-driven front and back wheels allow the tractor to better maintain speed on uneven floors. A manual clutch enables freewheeling of the tractor for easy positioning. All of the arms and support posts use tool-less clamps for easy adjustment or removal. When dismantled, the tractor can be easily passed through a 24-in. manhole.
The Sub Arc Tractor comes with either a HDC 1500 DX (digital) or HDC 1500 A (analog) controller. The digital controller will store up to 12 programs, allowing the system to complete multiple passes with different settings without needing to stop to reset parameters. All the operator has to do is change the program number and hit start.
The Sub Arc Tractor also comes with a RAD-400 drive motor, 25 lb capacity flux hopper with valve, wire reel, torch, remote start/stop control, tractor guide rolls and wire straightener. System components are available separately for stationary mounting and can be used with other manufacturers? equipment; however, these sub arc components are designed to work together .
