Sapa Industrial Extrusions (Morris, IL) has achieved certification of its Quality System to the ABS Quality Assurance Program of the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). The Sapa facility is one of only two aluminum extruders in the United States to have qualified for this prestigious designation since ABS aluminum mill certification became mandatory in 2006. (Previously other US aluminum
extrusion and hot rolled product mills were approved on a voluntary
basis.)
The ABS certification allows the Morris facility to produce ABS approved grades of AA 6082 aluminum alloy extrusions with temper designations of T4 and T6 in thicknesses up to 8mm. As a result, Sapa will be able to supply material for critical naval/marine applications, oil and gas industry supply vessels and the growing luxury yacht industry.
Howard D. Somers, Morris Operations Manager, commented on the unique opportunities afforded by the certification. "This achievement is a strategic component in our commitment to providing solutions for our customers. It complements our recent investments in people and technology, including specialized press and fabrication capabilities, and enables us to serve as a highly qualified supplier to the Marine industry.?
"We congratulate the Morris operation on their ABS certification,? said Tolga Egrilmezer, Business Segment Manager, Sapa Mass Transportation. ?This is recognition of the efforts of Morris? functional teams to diversify into new areas to provide solutions to Sapa Group North America customers.?
