Macsteel Service Centers USA (Portland, OR) recently expanded its business operations with the opening of a new 100,000 sq ft service center in Portland, OR. A formal plant opening and ribbon-cutting event is planned for the spring of 2009.

The Portland plant will service the Pacific Northwest region including Oregon, Washington and Idaho. The service center will process and stock carbon, stainless and aluminum flat rolled and wide flange beams. Future plans call for the product line to include channels, angles, tubes and plates.

The new service center offers in-house saw cutting and cambering. It operates an Amada HK1000 Structural Band Saw with capacity to cut 40 in beams, and a cambering machine that will camber 30 in wide beams with weights as much as 148 lb/ft. James L. Rapae has been named manager of plant operations at the new facility. Rapae, the former operations manager for Ryerson at its Portland facility, has over 25 years of experience in the steel industry including a stint at Integris Metals. In addition to Rapae, Macsteel has hired six additional employees to fill out the Portland staff. ?Development of business in the Pacific Northwest is a top priority for Macsteel, and Portland is an ideal place for our continued growth as a company,? said Russ Delaney, president of Western North America for Macsteel Service Centers USA.
