Houghton International offers forging companies a product that is ideal for quenching materials that are prone to cracking and distortion. AQUA-QUENCH® 3699, a water soluble and corrosion-resistant concentrated polymer solution, provides the desired cooling rates and metallurgical properties of oil quenchants, as well as the environmental and cost benefits of aqueous technology.
Like oil quenchants, AQUA-QUENCH 3699 can quench high hardenability alloys with less distortion than other polymer quenchants. Forgers can alter the quenching speed by adjusting the concentration and temperature of the solution, or by changing the agitation speed in the quench tank. Because AQUA-QUENCH 3699 is water-based, it does not produce smoke, flames or other fire hazards that can lead to costly downtime and high insurance premiums. After quenching, parts are easily cleaned with tap water, and the solution does not pollute the environment. AQUA-QUENCH 3699 costs less than traditional oil quenchants, and is shipped in 55-gallon steel drums and in bulk.
