Accumet Materials, Co. (Ossining, NY) offers a new line of standard and custom produced metal coated ceramic microspheres.

Accumet?s coated microspheres are hollow ceramic spheres, ranging in particle size and type of coating. These unique micro-spheres enable design engineers to manufacture high-strength, light weight parts and improve buoyancy, as well as thermal and acoustical insulation. Because of their unique properties and enhanced attributes, Accumet?s coated micro-spheres often replace traditional fillers such as silica, talc, and calcium carbonate.

Accumet?s standard coatings include aluminum, magnesium and nickel. Other coatings, such iron and tungsten, are also available. Complete coverage and adhesion are guaranteed and the coatings are stable in air at room temperature. These coated micro-spheres can be pressed or forged into light weight structures or substrates. For example, light weight Mg coated hollow ceramic spheres can be used to produce structures 20-40 percent lighter than Beryllium and 40-50 percent lighter than aluminum.
